Ex.39-40; Ps.15; Acts 12
TOPIC: Character
SCRIPTURE: "He swears to his own hurt and does not change;" (Ps. 15:4b)
OBSERVATION: Did you notice that the Psalmist said that he swears to his own hurt and does not change? Have you ever heard someone say something like this? "I swear on my mother's grave that...."
They were saying, "I give you my word"!!!
To swear means = to declare solemnly or forcefully that what is said is true
APPLICATION: Have you vowed to do something
only to realize you've yet to follow through?
Made any pledges recently that you've yet to pay?
Have you broken any promises lately?
Did you give your word only to go back on it?
Have you made this statement, "I guarantee you..."
only to come up short?
"Words are powerful, and how we use them reflects on our relationship with God. Perhaps nothing so identifies Christians as their speech - speaking the truth, and keeping their word." [Life Application Study Bible]
SO
Is your word your deed?
Can your friends, family, & co-workers take what you say to the bank?
If you've said that you were going to do something you need to be like the Psalmist and do it even if it hurts you
PERIOD!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to always keep my word.
