TOPIC: Responsibility
SCRIPTURE: " And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of Daivd!" The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you? They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened." Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; they regained their sight and followed Him."
(Matthew 20:29-34)
OBSERVATION: The blind men called Jesus "Son of David". The Jews knew that the Messiah would come from the line of David. Unlike the Pharisees, these two men could easily see that Jesus was the Messiah.
Inspite of the entire crowd telling them to be quiet, they continued to cry out to Jesus, because they wanted to see. Once they received their sight they followed him.
APPLICATION: I once heard a funny but sad quote it goes like this: "The problem with Amercians is that no one wants to take responsibility for anything, but don't quote me on that."
The thing that jumped off the page to me was that the blind men, right after they were healed, "followed Jesus". What you have to remember, is that, these men entered all whole new world, a whole new way of life. Ultimately, a life full of new responsibilities. Whereas while they were blind, other people took care of them. Now, that they can see, they will be required to take care of themselves.
This week a friend of mine reminded me
To whom
much is given
MUCH IS REQUIRED!
How much have you been given?
PRAYER: Father God, help me to remember that you have given and given and given and given SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to me. Help me to step up and take responsibility each and every day of my life.
