TOPIC: Holiness
SCRIPTURE: "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. The love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market place and being called Rabbi by men."
OBSERVATION: Jesus, the master of revealing the true condition of your heart, exposes the religious leaders for who they really are, on the inside.
They cared about looking Holy, they wanted to put on a good front, because appearance was everything to them.
APPLICATION: As we learn information about Jesus and what it means to be a follower of his, we need to make sure that it is actually producing life-change on the inside.
Being holy trumps appearing holy anyday.
Be holy as I am holy says the Lord
David asked God to create IN him a clean heart
renew a steadfast spirit WITHIN him
Because BEING is and for ever will be more important than appearing
PRAYER: Father God, may I continually allow you to search my heart and see if there is any wicked way in me. Help me to be FAR MORE CONCERNED about BEING than appearing. Knowing that you see the hidden things.
